What exactly is veal? Veal is a male calf. Ontario and Quebec are the largest Canadian producers of veal due to the fact that they have the largest number of dairy farms. Veal can be split up into two categories: grain and milk-fed veal. Milk-fed veal is raised on a milk-based diet and as a result its meat is pink in colour. Grain-fed veal is a bit darker in colour and can taste like beef, just not as strong. All veal products are available in grain or milk-fed.
